Wauneta Care and Therapy  Center

Lisa KisingerLisa Kisinger, Administrator

I am the administrator at Wauneta Care and Therapy Center. Prior to being Village owned and  our facility was a Vetter Health Services facility and we were known as Heritage of Wauneta. I’ve been working for this facility since September of 1999, when I was employed as the business office manager. I held that job until January of 2008, when I became the administrator. Both of my parents were residents here, and I was so blessed to be able to spend each day with them until their last… I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that each passed on with dignity being cared for by the wonderful staff here at WCTC.

My husband, Ray is the maintenance supervisor here at Wauneta Care and Therapy Center. He has been here since 1997, 2 years longer than I have, and really does a great job keeping our facility working properly and the grounds looking beautiful. We live in Palisade – my hometown – and have a 3 year old (rambunctious) Rottweiler named Maxx and Towly, our calico cat. We enjoy our animals… they give such unconditional love! I am the church pianist for the Palisade United Methodist Church where I am a lifelong member.

I have two grown children – Sarah and Travis. Sarah lives just down the street with her husband Joe and our great granddaughters, Peyton Elisabeth, 13, and Sawyer Jane, 9. They are the love of our lives and just so much fun! My son Travis lives in Lincoln with his wife, Jessica, and our 3rd granddaughter Hazel, 2.  He works for a roofing and siding company, and Jess is an RN at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

On a good day – nursing home administration is challenging – there are always new regulations to learn and monitor. But you can certainly never say it is boring! I enjoy the work, the challenges, and most of all… the people!

Wauneta Care and Therapy Center, purchased by the Village of Wauneta in July, was built in 1969 and opened in 1970 through the efforts of some very energetic townsfolk who saw a need and carried it through. Prior to the purchase, we were a Vetter Health Services facility, known as Heritage of Wauneta. VHS purchased the facility in 1982-83, but decided that the cost of installing a federally mandated sprinkler system was more than they wanted to take on – so our building and contents were purchased by the Village of Wauneta on July 1, 2012. Again…. through the efforts of energetic townfolk!

Through the years, we’ve renovated and remodeled and have had many compliments about our home-like atmosphere. Of course we can’t credit that entirely to nice furnishings and rooms – our staff is second to none! We pride ourselves on hiring only the most compassionate and caring people. We can teach anyone the tasks, but kindness and passion for caring for the elderly is a ‘natural’ trait that cannot be taught.

Currently, we are licensed for 36 beds and our census is holding its own at 30 and just above! We employ 60 staff members, give or take a few and take great pride in the fact we have not used agency or pooled labor in quite some time. Which means our staff personally knows each of our residents and not only meet their needs, but touch hearts as well.

Residents enjoy activities such as Bingo, Spelling Bees, Trivia, Crafts, Exercise and Bible Study. We have a first rate therapy department, offering physical, occupational, and speech therapies. We hope you drop by to visit us soon! We’d be happy to show you around!
